AtkinsonArts.com: Painter Lisa Atkinson

My abstract painting practice explores the tension between accretion and dissolution, a focus sharpened by the loss of my home in the 2025 Palisades Fire. Drawing on the Deconstructivist traditions of my architectural training at SCI-Arc, I translate fragmented, non-linear spatial concepts into large-scale paintings. By layering acrylic washes, pigment sticks, walnut oils, and smoky charcoal forged from fire, I create nearly inhabitable sites of regeneration. Each canvas utilizes the transformative, liquid-to-solid nature of paint to navigate the threshold between emergence and erasure in transmutation.
